Ok, so I have to edit most of my comment above lol. I reached out to Boox and they sent me what seems to me the more updated version of the software and it was able to detect the monitor. I was able to change some settings now with the software and WOAH, what a huge difference it makes. I'm no longer dealing with heavy ghosting and super slow cursor. You really do need the software to make it work. I'm also trying out BetterDisplay as another commenter here suggested. The display still doesn't look fantastic, but it works if you need to read docs and for writing (which is what I wanted the Mira for mostly). I have bigme251, quality in this boox is nicer, and better speed. | |||
To quickly answer your question: yes, it's usable with front light off, though noticeably darker than my Kindle. The color filter layer in Kaleido 3 naturally reduces light transmission, that's why I think it's darker. | |||
I work in a dim office, so some front lighting helps visibility and mimics the LCD experience I'm used to. After your comment, I tested different levels and found ~80 gives excellent results, so I won't be using the maximum anymore. | |||
