Nominal Aphasia
Anomic aphasia and nominal aphasia are synonymous terms used to describe the same condition, which is a mild, fluent type of aphasia characterized primarily by word retrieval failures, particularly with nouns and verbs. The condition is also known by other names such as dysnomia, amnesic aphasia, or verbal amnesia.
Speech and language therapy is the cornerstone of treatment and is essential for maximizing recovery. Therapies may include naming exercises, conversational coaching, and technology-assisted practice using apps or virtual reality to enhance engagement and provide real-time feedback. Alternative approaches like music therapy and cognitive rehabilitation have also shown promise. Medications and brain stimulation techniques, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation, are under investigation but are not yet standard treatments.
